The Coronation of King Harold

Embroidered Latin titulus: « HIC DEDERUNT HAROLDO CORONAM REGIS / HIC RESIDET HAROLD REX ANGLORUM »

Harold accepts the royal crown offered by the Saxon Witan and sits enthroned in majesty as King of the English, bearing the orb and sceptre, acclaimed by the assembled lords before Archbishop Stigand.

This fragment belongs to a continuous narrative: the upper and lower registers extend the main story with a bestiary, decorative motifs and symbolic echoes.
